The Bayside Middle School Library

The Bayside Middle School Library is a quiet place that fosters reading and learning. It hosts a large collection of over 20,000 books, magazines, and newspapers. For the curious student, it is a treasure trove of fiction and nonfiction as well as a quiet place to study. Students can check out as many as four books for two-week intervals. Fines are not charged for overdue books, but students are expected to pay for a book that cannot be returned.

The library is not only a collection of books but also the gateway for knowledge from other media. Teachers have access to over 1,700 audio-visual items such as educational DVDs, videocassettes, audiocassettes, laser discs, and compact discs. Students can use the 18 stationary computers that have search programs for not only the Bayside collection but also Internet access to the public library collections. The Bayside branch of the public library cooperates with our school by supplying extra resources when requested.

The library media specialists at Bayside are eager to show students not only the best in published books for middle school students but also the World Wide Web. The school subscribes to several Internet research tools and databases including World Book, SIRS, Proquest Platinum, Gale Group, and Grolier Online Encyclopedia. With these resources, students can become life-long learners.
